This Cookie Policy explains how GENO uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies can be "essential" (needed for the site to work) or "non-essential" (used for things like analytics or advertising).
Cookies are not the only way information can be stored on your device. This Policy also covers "similar technologies" — in particular your browser's local and session storage — because the law treats them the same way.
The cookies we use
Every cookie set on a GENO page is strictly necessary. We set no cookie for analytics, advertising or tracking, on any page.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
geno_session | GENO | Keeps you securely signed in to your account after you log in. Without it, you could not stay logged in. | Strictly necessary (essential) | 14 days |
__stripe_mid | Stripe | Set only on our payment page. Helps Stripe detect and prevent fraudulent card payments. | Strictly necessary (essential) | About 1 year |
__stripe_sid | Stripe | Set only on our payment page. Helps Stripe detect and prevent fraudulent card payments during a single checkout session. | Strictly necessary (essential) | About 30 minutes |
`geno_session` is set when you sign in or register, is removed when you sign out, and is protected (it is HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite-restricted). It holds a signed token identifying your account and role. It is strictly necessary to provide the signed-in service you have asked for, so it does not require your consent.
The two Stripe cookies are set by Stripe's payment software, which we embed on our card payment page so that you can enter your card details without leaving GENO. Although Stripe sets them, they are stored under the GENO website address rather than Stripe's, which is why we list them here rather than treating them as somebody else's cookies. They are used by Stripe to tell genuine payments apart from fraudulent ones. Fraud prevention is an integral part of taking a card payment you have asked us to take, so these are also strictly necessary and do not require your consent.
They are set only where a card payment actually happens. If you have chosen to pay the driver in cash, our payment page does not load Stripe's software at all and neither Stripe cookie is set. The same is true of every other page on the site: browsing, booking, tracking a delivery and messaging never set a Stripe cookie.
Similar technologies we use
Three small pieces of information are saved by your own browser rather than sent to us as cookies. Each exists only to make something you are already doing behave sensibly, all are strictly necessary on the same basis as the cookies above, and none is used to track you or shared with anyone.
| Name | Storage | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
geno.cookieNotice.dismissed | Local storage | Remembers that you have already dismissed the short notice about this Policy, so it is not shown to you again on every page. | Until you clear your browser data |
geno.chat.lastSeen | Local storage | Remembers when you last read the messages on a booking, so the unread badge is accurate. | Until you clear your browser data |
geno.rebookDraft | Session storage | Carries the details of a delivery you have chosen to book again from your history into the booking form. | Discarded when you close the tab |
About that notice. The first time you visit, a short bar appears at the bottom of the page telling you that we use only essential cookies and linking here. It is there to inform you, not to ask you for anything: because every cookie we set is strictly necessary, there is nothing for you to accept or decline, and so the bar offers no choice to make — only a "Got it" button to dismiss it. Dismissing it is not an agreement to anything, and the site behaves identically whether you dismiss it or ignore it.
What we do NOT use
We want to be clear about what we do not do:
- We do not use analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics).
- We do not use advertising or marketing cookies or tracking pixels.
- We do not use profiling, behavioural-tracking, A/B-testing, or session-replay tools.
- We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Third parties
Stripe payout setup. When a Driver sets up payouts, we send them to Stripe, our payment processor, and the rest of that process happens on Stripe's own pages rather than ours. Any cookie set there is Stripe's, under Stripe's website address, and is governed by Stripe's own cookie and privacy policies. This is separate from the two Stripe cookies listed above, which are set on our own payment page.
The booking map. When you use the address picker, your browser loads mapping software from a content delivery network (unpkg, which is served through Cloudflare) and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. At the time of writing neither sets a cookie, but both necessarily receive your IP address and browser details in order to send the files back, and both are governed by their own policies.
Fonts. Every page loads a typeface from Google Fonts. Google does not set a cookie from this, but it does receive your IP address and browser details when the font is requested. This is described further in our Privacy Policy.
Maps and routing. When we work out distances and addresses for a quote, the request to Google Maps is made by our own servers, not by your browser. Google therefore receives our server's details rather than yours, and sets no cookie on your device.
Managing cookies
Because every cookie we use is essential and we run no analytics or advertising, there is no tracking to opt out of and no consent banner to click through. You can still control or delete cookies through your browser settings, but blocking them will prevent you from staying signed in, and blocking the Stripe cookies will prevent card payments from completing.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies — analytics, advertising, A/B testing, session replay, or an embedded third-party widget that sets one — we will update this Policy and ask for your consent before anything is stored on your device, with refusing made as easy as accepting.
